| Black Diamond II Projector Screen Posted: 14 Apr 2009 04:58 PM PDT
Screen Innovations is back with a successor to the original Black Diamond projector screen, and its successor has been uncreatively named as the Black Diamond II projector screen. This new screen will target multiple commercial and consumer indoor and outdoor home theater systems, touting to offer improved color accuracy, more contrast with enhanced uniformity, and the ability to function even in brighter environments including living rooms, game rooms and commercial environments. This is made possible by reducing light scatter dramatically while increasing viewer immersion and contrast by minimizing the room washout. Interested parties can pick up the Black Diamond II projector screen in .8 and 1.4 gains. Permalink: |
| Posted: 14 Apr 2009 04:55 PM PDT ![]() What you see here is the Cuman Tracking Device, also known as the CP-100G. This tiny little patch-type tracker functions as a P2P solution, which stands for person-to-person application. Having said that, it means the device won’t need an operation center to report the location of where it is currently, as it can instead use SMS or TCP/IP to report the tracker’s location straight onto a PC, PDA or cell phone. Those on a tight budget will be pleased to know that the software is free while the P2P solution can link the unit to a freeware Google map, and hence doing away with the need for a service charge for using the tracking service. A single full charge can run the CP-100G for up to 72 hours, while an integrated SOS button is there to send a location and emergency message to pre-programmed numbers for help. Permalink: |
| ThreadLites Shirts Make A Statement Posted: 14 Apr 2009 04:51 PM PDT ![]() ThreadLites has a range of shirts that target geeks as well as the fashion forward as it comes with an integrated graphic-illuminating electro luminescent panel that enables designs or text to flash on the outer area in a predetermined pattern. This makes for a great tool where mobile advertising is concerned, but we’re more or less concerned about the care for such a delicate shirt - most of the time, we’d just toss in our clothes according to colors and let the washing machine do the dirty work, but with this, we might even need to perform a hand wash - the indignity of it all! | Windows 7 Comes With ISO Burning Posted: 14 Apr 2009 04:48 PM PDT ![]() Forget about picking up another DVD burning software if you’re going to upgrade your operating system to Windows 7 - apparently, it comes with built-in ISO burning, which is a rather essential tool these days for power users who often have to burn an ISO image to test out and install software. Nice to see Microsoft include way more capability out-of-the-box for Windows 7 compared to Vista. Hopefully there are also other goodies in store for power users as well. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what else comes out from it, eh? Permalink: |

Powered by a USB port, the wrist rest will help warm up your joints while relieving your bones from a fair number of ailments that have long been suspected to be associated with cold and plenty of time on a computer keyboard. Carbon fiber heating elements are used to produce heat in the Far Infrared range which has a long list of reputed health benefits. You picking up one of these for grandad? Permalink: |

We all know that Motorola is knee-deep in the cell phone industry, but what about the GPS line? Well, the company is apparently planning to update their GPS line sometime this fall with a hint or two that they might also take the plunge into manufacturing connected PNDs. According to navigation product line manager Blake Bullock, “We’re absolutely making a bigger play. We believe we can bring something new to the table with Motorola’s vast experience in wireless connectivity. We have aspirations to do just that, combining the best aspects of 3G smartphones with PNDs and creating optimized experiences for consumers.” What do you think of their efforts - will they come up short, or will it be a saviour for Motorola? | Analyst: iPhone More Enterprise-Ready Than Blackberry (What!??) Posted: 14 Apr 2009 04:32 PM PDT
This sounds like an April’s Fools, but , an analyst at Forrester that seems to think that the iPhone could be a real communication asset to companies. We did not fork the $749 required to read this gem, but according to Simon Sage from Intomobile, the report says that iPhones can save on many fronts: cost of the device (the employee buys it), the back-end infrastructure (no need for a Blackberry server), efficient web browsing. The idea of removing the “Blackberry Tax” is not new at all: it was in fact the cornerstone of Windows Mobile’s strategy when Push Email was introduced. Employees could use their own device, there’s no need to have a Blackberry server and wireless data plan and so on… What the iPhone adds is better web browsing and shininess, we guess. By the way Nokia has support for Exchange too. Often, companies believe that Blackberry is more secure and employees end up in trench warfare with their IT department. There lies the real problem. But we think that the lack of physical keyboard on the iPhone kills it for those who type a lot. Secondly, Blackberry has a much better deal on international data. Blackberry might be better in on-board data encryption too… that’s another story. Permalink: |

The Samwell SR659 is a 1.97lbs, 7″ touch ultra mobile PC (UMPC) that is powered by a nano processor at 1Ghz. It will run a flavor of Windows XP (Tablet Edition or Embedde) and should be able to run for 4 hours continuously, “under normal conditions”, whatever that means. The 30GB of storage should be sufficient for most uses. Extra external SD storage is also a possibility. Despite its small size, the Samwell SR659 has plenty of connectivity: 2xUSB, PCMCIA, VGA, Audio, Ethernet… and WiFi. Get the full specifications on the product page. | Solaren and PG&E To Use Solar Power From Space (huh?) Posted: 14 Apr 2009 03:59 PM PDT ![]() It has been reported that PG&E is seeking an approval from the state of California to purchase 200 Megawatt of solar power, power that would be harvested from space.
The harvested solar energy will be converted in radio waves (micro-waves?) and beamed back to earth to be reconverted in electricity. That’s interesting, but we fail to see how it can be cost-efficient. This might be a way for Solaren to get some funding to run its program. From PG&E’s point of view, as long as the price is right, why not do it? In any case, PG&E is not “investing” in Solaren, said a spokesperson for the energy company. Let’s hope that we won’t be “zapped” by the beam… Permalink: |
| Dell To Start Smartphone Push In China (Rumor) Posted: 14 Apr 2009 03:49 PM PDT ![]() Dell has been talking to Chinese operators about its upcoming Android smartphones, that’s according to Zhang Jun, analyst at Wedge MKI, who says that Dell is talking to the largest Chinese operator. Note the language: “talking”. Apple has “talked” to the same operator for a long time, so this sounds very hypothetical right now. However, a success there would be huge for Dell, even if China has its share of Android-based projects. At the moment, we don’t see what leverage Dell has - especially if it is to release a rebranded (manufactured by someone else) Android handset. Dell has not commented officially on the subject.
