Fujitsu Secure USB protects your info

Posted: 17 Apr 2009 03:49 PM PDT

If you are looking for a way to protect your personal information so that you know for sure it will be safe, you might want to consider the latest device to come from and this gadget makes good and sure your data is secure.

If you transport a lot of information from work to home and back again and want to make sure the files won’t be compromised, you can use this latest gadget from Fujitsu. It involves a USB memory device–essentially a thumb drive that has a battery and a processor built in. You can adjust the security settings on the drive so that data will be automatically deleted after a period of time you specify, or if someone tries to use it on an unauthorized computer.

That’s really great if you accidentally lose it. Your data won’t ever end up in the wrong hands. Another technology is called file redirect and it makes it so any data that you place on the thumb drive is limited to itself, so nothing can be pulled off of it. We don’t know when this super secure Fujitsu tech will hit stores, but we’ll be sure to keep you up to date.

Time Warner Cable renounces highest tier bandwidth cap prices

Time Warner Cable renounces highest tier bandwidth cap prices

Time Warner Cable recently announced that it would be expanding its program.  The tier pricing would make TWC subscribers choose a tier based on how much they can afford to pay and how much bandwidth they think they will use.  It caused a lot of uproar among the Internet, even with those not in the affected areas, and even those who don’t have Time Warner Cable.

Now, after the initial uproar, TWC has backpedaled on its plans.  It has decided to not follow through with the tier pricing plans and continue their services as they are for now.  However, it has said that they plans were taken down until they can further “educate” their users.  Sounds like it’s just trying to rethink its stance, and possibly find a way to make it sound better to the consumer.

If there’s any way to make tier pricing sound better to consumers TWC will probably try to find it, but it’s doubtful that one exists.  Those who use a high amount of bandwidth will always be out to give their say on the issue.  Sure, it might be unfair to some of those who don’t use that much bandwidth, and only use their Internet to check email and news rather than downloading movies, and whatnot.  It’s a hard decision for TWC, but charging $150 for unlimited access isn’t and shouldn’t be the solution.

Bridgestone color e-paper display revealed

Posted: 17 Apr 2009 01:49 PM PDT

Bridgestone their brand new color electronic paper display technology earlier this week in Tokyo at a trade show and this display has something all the others don’t–support for pen input!

bridgestonecoloreink 424x480

This display is made from the Bridgestone QR-LPD electronic powder, a color filter and the Wacom electromagnetic induction tablet. But unlike other e-paper displays, it also has a fast refresh speed to make pen input possible. The refresh rate is now 0.8 seconds as opposed to up to 15 seconds on the previous model.

We don’t know at this point how the company improved the panel but it seems to be related to the drive tech. This makes it possible for the pet to write smoothly on the display’s surface. We don’t know when this new Bridgestone display will be released or how much it’ll cost, but we’ll keep you posted.

Four founders of Pirate Bay found guilty in file sharing trial

Posted: 17 Apr 2009 12:17 PM PDT

Pirate Bay LogoThe Swedish courts handed down a landmark decision by finding the four founders of the wildly popular torrent site Pirate Bay guilty of hosting copyrighted material on their website.  Along with being sentenced to one year in prison each, the company will have to pay an estimated $3.5 million to several defendants in the case, including Sony, Warner Bros, EMI, and MGM.

The Pirate Bay founders, Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij and Carl Lundstrom used as their defense the fact that they don't post copyrighted material on the site, but instead point users in the direction of places that they can download movies, TV shows, applications and music.  However, the court ruled that the quartet was in violation by "providing a Web site with sophisticated search functions, simple download and storage capabilities, and through the tracker linked to the Web site.”

The founders of Pirate Bay have stated prior to the conviction that they plan to appeal if found guilty.

Kyocera EOS Phone Concept

Kyocera EOS Phone Concept

Kyocera isn’t exactly at the forefront of the cell phone world, but that doesn’t mean they are exempt from doing their best when it comes to new products and concepts. Well, at least the company seems to have excelled this time round with the latter by featuring the EOS phone concept, boasting a tri-fold OLED design as well as the following insane features :-

  • Shape-shifting buttons that can become flat if necessary
  • Powered by kinetic energy
  • Charges via “nano-scale piezoelectric generators”

No idea on when such technology will be made available to phone manufacturers, but to have a handset that can be folded like a wallet without breaking? Sounds pretty cool to us - the only thing it is missing is the ability to cure cancer and weed out poverty from the face of the earth.

Fujitsu USB Memory Device Technology Targets Security

Information in the wrong hands can be a very deadly tool, regardless of whether it is a tiff between two lovers or a nation who is spying on another, hoping to unearth national secrets that could lead to a country’s downfall. Well, Fujitsu knows all too well that the digital world is fraught with such dangers and have done their bit in making it a little bit more safe for everyone by introducing a USB memory device technology which is able to erase data from the USB flash drive automatically after a preset amount of time has passed. In addition, they have also worked on a file redirect technology that makes sure the data from the USB memory device has only one place to be stored - a selected server beforehand for a much more secure corporate environment.

Solar Squirrel For Laughs

While the and is able to provide a nice glow to your garden when dusk falls. We wonder just how long it will be able to last when subject to the harsh outdoor conditions over time, hopefully the material it is made out of won’t end up so brittle over the months (or years) that a simple knock or tap will result in it caving in.

Solar Powered Home Theater System

Posted: 17 Apr 2009 11:20 AM PDT

We’ve seen plenty of solar-powered devices in the past, and here’s one that takes the cake - the “Guiltless Green Home Theater”. Manufactured from scratch by Home Theater Specialists of America (HTSA), the aptly named Guiltless Green Home Theater is the first of its kind in the world, offering up to 19 hours of video and audio playback even if the sun fails to rise for that particular day. You won’t suffer from want of quality with this either, as the A/V gear for the Guiltless Green Home Theater comprises of a Sharp projector, a 100″ Stewart Filmscreen, half dozen SpeakerCraft in-wall speakers, an Integra AV receiver, Monster Cable wiring, Lutron lighting, Universal Remote Control control and Salamander furniture. It will hit the consumer market pretty soon and won’t be cheap, but at least you’re doing your part in keeping the world green.
